Chromatic 3D Materials offers 3D printers, related software, and materials, collectively known as the RX-AM platform. The company targets applications like making seals and gaskets, industrial components, technical textiles and apparel, and elastomeric tooling in industries like transportation, industrial equipment, textiles, medical, and aerospace. Chromatic’s technology takes advantage of chemical reactions (which start inside the printer head to bond the liquid materials) to make elastomers that meet industrial strength requirements. The technology can be used to print on various materials like textiles, polymers, glass, and metals. In October 2022, the company introduced Smooth-Mode technology, a development that allows printing polyurethane parts without post-processing or surface finishing, available with the RX-AM platform. The new technology can be used to print products that expand and contract like rubber bladders and other elastomeric products. In November 2022, Chromatic introduced 1) ChromaScan software, which allows manufacturers to print resin on non-planar surfaces—including metal, plastic, and textiles, and 2) RX-Flow, a new line of 3D printers based on reactive extrusion additive manufacturing with thermoset polyurethanes.
Funding and financials
Chromatic 3D Materials raised USD 3.1 million in August 2023 to further develop its technology and R&D, scale production, and grow sales and technology teams.
