Excel Esports

Excel eSports is a UK-based team organization competing in League of Legends and Fortnite esports. It was one of the ten founding teams of the League of Legends European Championship, which is the highest level of competition of League of Legend esports in the region. As of July 2021, the organization has partnered with BT (UK communication services provider), AndaSeat, Sony, HyperX, Belong Gaming Arenas, and Newzoo. The team has accumulated prize winnings of more than USD 390,000 as of July 2021.  In November 2022, the company acquired the assets of Hitcap, an esports e-learning platform. Through the deal Excel is expecting to leverage Hitcap’s combined social media followers of 500,000 to boost its social media and online presence, and will also rebrand Hitcap’s social media. 

In July 2021, Excel Esports raised EUR 20 million (approximately USD 23 million) from an investment round led by JRJ Group, a majority shareholder of Excel Esports since 2018. The round included the participation of new investors IPGL Ltd. and TNF investments.

The round came at a pre-money valuation of GBP 100 million (approximately USD 138 million). The fresh funds are expected to be  allocated toward infrastructure development, including opening its London-based headquarters, expanding its operations to new markets, and developing its digital platform XL.gg. The new headquarters is expected to open in Summer 2021 and will be used for content production, streaming, and partner and media events.
