MYCO is a UK-based producer of alternative proteins, specializing in the cultivation of oyster mushrooms for plant-based meat alternatives. The company was founded in 2016 under the name Hooba, which has since evolved into MYCO Holdings. MYCO has developed a patented system of AI-controlled vertical farms to produce its meat replacement product Hooba, made from oyster mushrooms, allowing the company to improve and automate agricultural systems, reducing land use, waste, food miles, and the production of CO2.
The Hooba protein contains essential nutrients such as niacin, vitamin D, and potassium and is produced at the same facility in which it grows oyster mushrooms to reduce food miles and increase sustainability. In May 2024 , the company launched its first products—burgers and sausages—made using Hooba.
