MYCO, a UK-based alternative protein producer, has debuted burgers and sausages made from its Hooba oyster mushroom protein. For its initial run, the company has produced 10,000 burgers and 20,000 sausages, slated for release at multiple suppliers across the UK.
Oyster mushrooms, Hooba protein, and Hooba-based products are developed and produced at the same plant, reducing food miles significantly. Further, the company notes that its burgers and sausages have received positive customer feedback for taste and texture and even beat some established plant-based brands in blind taste tests.
Initially established in 2016 as Hooba, MYCO is an alternative protein producer that develops its products using oyster mushrooms. It grows oyster mushrooms at AI-controlled vertical farms, which allows the company to improve and automate agricultural systems, reducing land use, waste, food miles, and CO2 production.
