KETOS is a San Francisco-based company offering an AI-powered automated platform aimed at making water safer and more sustainable. The company provides real-time water quality intelligence to industries, farmers, and city operators through its fully integrated solution that detects over 30 water parameters, including heavy metals, inorganics, and nutrients.

KETOS' technology combines hardware, software, connectivity, automated reporting, and predictive analytics to enable autonomous water quality monitoring and testing. Its patented IoT sensor systems, SHIELD and WAVE, autonomously monitor water quality parameters and efficiency data points like flow, pressure, and volume. The data is aggregated in a secure centralized warehouse and organized for analytics.

The platform offers out-of-the-box reporting with customizable real-time alerts based on specific operational requirements. Additionally, KETOS' machine learning algorithms provide predictive insights, allowing customers to forecast water usage, identify anomalies, and get ahead of potential compliance issues or maintenance needs.

KETOS follows a service-based model, charging an annual fee for owning, maintaining, and servicing the hardware, eliminating upfront capital expenditure for customers. As of May 2024, the company was monitoring over 45 billion gallons of water globally and had collected tens of millions of data insights.

Key customers and partnerships

KETOS' key customers included mining companies exploring lithium and managing groundwater usage, industrial manufacturers monitoring source water, operations, and discharge, and farmers growing water-intensive crops like pistachios and almonds. Indoor agriculture customers also utilized KETOS' solutions for real-time nutrient concentration monitoring to maintain consistent product quality.

For its go-to-market strategy and global expansion across nine countries, KETOS raised USD 10 million in equity financing in May 2024 from investors led by Tenfore Holdings, with participation from Danu Venture Group. The funding also supported R&D efforts to address PFAS contaminants.

KETOS formed strategic partnerships with Accenture, serving as an investor and resale partner, and appointed new board members, including Jennifer Helle from Accenture and Jim MacIntyre. Strategic advisors included sustainability experts Dr. Neil Hawkins and Biju George, the former Executive VP of DC Water.
