Food Evolution is the vegan food brand of Italian startup JOY Srl founded by the Musacchio Family. After opening its first vegan restaurant in 1979, the family opened Italy's first meat analog factory in 2014 to scale production, thereby creating JOY Srl.
The company collaborated with Dutch scientists from the University of Wageningen and used high moisture wet extrusion technology to develop what it claims to be Italy’s first vegan meat. In August 2022 , Food Evolution unveiled a new plant-based meat texture for chicken, allowing the company to create a meat-similar texture without the use of any binders.
Funding and financials
In April 2021, the company completed a multi-million investment round led by Sviluppo Imprese Centro Italia SGR S.p.A. and Gepafin Spa, along with three other private international investors.
