Eqtec PLC is an Irish waste-to-energy that utilizes a proprietary advanced gasification technology to convert waste into synthetic gas for electricity generation. The company processes forestry, agricultural, and industrial waste to generate electricity, heat, biofuels, synthetic natural gas, and green hydrogen. Eqtec provides end-to-end process engineering for the deployment of recycling facilities.
In addition, Eqtec utilizes a proprietary cloud-based modeling software in its plants to assess the syngas' quantity and quality. The plants are equipped with monitoring sensors that gather data from all operational areas.
Eqtec has established a commercial plant in its Market Development Centre in Italy to convert wood waste into electricity for the national grid and produce biochar. The company aims to start smaller-scale, autonomous plants in remote areas to convert agricultural and forestry biomass into energy. As of September 2023, Eqtec’s pipeline includes 17 projects to be commissioned in the next few years.
Key customers and partnerships
Eqtec has contracted COSMI as its project delivery partner to obtain engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for the former’s renewable energy plants. The company has formed a joint venture as “Synergy Projects” with Sense ESCO to co-develop projects in Croatia, leveraging Sense ESCO’s local partnerships
In June 2021, Eqtec partnered with MetalNRG to recommission a biomass-to-energy plant in Tuscany, Italy, with a capacity to generate one megawatt of electricity.
Funding and financials
In February 2024, Eqtec raised GBP 500,000 (~USD 638,000) through a direct subscription of 21.3 million ordinary shares by Verde Corporation for working capital purposes. In September 2023, the company received a EUR 2.9 million (~ USD 3.11 million) credit facility to refinance its Italy Market Development Centre (MDC) from Banca del Fucino, an Italian banking group.
