Macrometa offers a platform for developers to build and run databases, apps, and application programming interfaces (APIs), using a globally distributed edge and cloud network (across 175 regions). Its “Global Data Network” (GDN) lets users combine distributed NoSQL databases, stream data processing engines (letting users query a continuous stream of data and detect conditions quickly), and search functionalities, on a serverless infrastructure.

The company claims it can process requests in 50 milliseconds, which is 50-100x faster than cloud database platforms such as DynamoDB and MongoDB. Macrometa further claims that it can reduce cloud database and server costs by over 70%.

In October 2023, Macrometa launched PhotonIQ, a suite of SaaS services aiming to revolutionize website and API performance by leveraging AI. Built on the success of its Global Data Network, PhotonIQ addresses key cloud-based challenges with solutions like dynamic performance enhancement, edge-based API hosting, and site protection services.

Macrometa distinguishes its offering by enabling developers to be vendor-neutral, allowing them to utilize data stored with any (or multiple) cloud providers.

Key customers and partnerships

In September 2022, Macrometa partnered with DevCycle, a software feature management platform, to support the launch of “Edge Flags,” an edge storage engine for feature management. The solution provides software development kits (SDK) and APIs to enable users to save user data to the edge and utilize it for feature targeting.

Macrometa entered into a partnership with Akamai (along with a funding round) in November 2022, through which the companies are integrating three infrastructure solutions into one platform: 1) Akamai’s edge network 2) Linode cloud hosting service and 3) Macrometa’s Global Data Network (GDN) and edge platform. Accordingly, developers can build apps and APIs on Macrometa and deploy them on Akamai.

Funding and financials

Macrometa received an undisclosed amount of funding in November 2022, led by Akamai, to invest in developer education, community development, event marketing, and joint customer sales.
