Utah-based Canary Speech is a telehealth technology service provider that offers a virtual diagnostic platform that can diagnose patients based on vocal biomarkers. Using machine learning, the company’s platform is able to currently assess a patient’s level of anxiety, stress, depression, mood, and energy levels through its API. These entities include Atrium Healthcare, Hackensack Meridian Health, Hitachi Japan, Tallaght Hospital, ULSTER University, Wake Forest University, Constant Companion, and Syntiant.

In May 2022, the company partnered with Sorenson Communications to create new synergies in diagnosing patients.

In December 2022, the company partnered with Harvard University (via the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center) to detect speech changes in patients diagnosed with Huntington's disease.

In May 2023, Canary Speech partnered with Microsoft to enhance its machine-learning speech models. Through the partnership, Canary Health became a Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare co-sell partner, allowing it to utilize Microsoft’s AI to accelerate Canary’s speech analysis technology. Additionally, Canary began utilizing Microsoft Azure to expand its market presence and Canary’s API platform was also integrated into Microsoft Teams.

In April 2024, Canary Speech partnered with Life365, a virtual care platform, to integrate AI-driven voice biomarkers with wearable sensors. Through the partnership, Canary Speech's technology was combined with Life365's remote patient monitoring service to provide efficient and proactive care.

Most recently, in August 2024, Canary Speech partnered with the Veteran Business Project (VBP), a non-profit supporting veteran entrepreneurship, to provide mental health management tools for veteran entrepreneurs. The partnership planned to utilize Canary Speech's AI technology through an app, which analyzed a 40-second voice recording to assess stress, mood, and energy levels. The real-time assessment allowed veterans to monitor their mental health, understand potential triggers, and receive personalized wellness recommendations.

Funding and financials

In June 2024, the company raised USD 13 million in a Series A funding round led by Cortes Capital, with participation from other venture capital firms. The raised funds were set aside to expand the company’s team and scale its platform.
