UK-based Valkyrie Industries is the developer of a device that combines VR and electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) to create immersive fitness experiences. The company's patented Haptics EMS technology is embodied in its EIR armbands, wearable devices designed to simulate muscle resistance in VR environments.
The EIR Training program, part of Valkyrie's platform, offers virtual fitness classes led by coaches in the metaverse. These classes, which include BoxFit and Dumbbell HIIT, can be customized to meet individual fitness needs. The platform also includes a Free Roam Mode, allowing users to work out at their own pace. This technology is designed to mimic the feel of real exercise equipment, and is reported to increase muscle mass and thickness, improve strength, and enhance overall cardiovascular fitness. The armbands are compatible with the Meta Quest 2, 3 and Pro VR headsets, and can operate for two hours on a full charge.
The company's goal was to make high-intensity resistance workouts more accessible and efficient, allowing users to exercise in their own homes without disrupting their schedules. Valkyrie Industries also claims that its EIR armband when combined with EMS and VR fitness, enhances muscle endurance and mobility by 87%.
The company expected to launch its EIR armband in the summer of 2023, priced at EUR 150 (~USD 165).
