Natural Capital Exchange (NCX), formerly SilviaTerra, is a data-driven forest carbon marketplace for forest carbon credits. As of February 2024, the project included over 22,000 landowners in 48 states, covering over 34 million acres, and operates the largest forest carbon project in the US by acreage. The company also launched NCX Rewards, a pilot program, which allows landowners to earn bonuses of up to USD 500.
Key customers and partnerships
The company’s initial carbon credit buyers were Microsoft, South Pole, and Shell Environmental Products. The company also partnered with Microsoft through the “AI for Earth” program to create Basemap—the first high-resolution forest inventory map of the US. In August 2022, the company partnered with Pledge, an integrated carbon measurement and offsetting platform, to list NCX carbon credits on its platform.
Funding and financials
NCX’s latest funding event was in March 2022, when it raised USD 50 million in a Series B funding round led by Energize Ventures. The proceeds were used to support international expansion as well as creation of new natural capital markets. Previously in April 2021, the company raised USD 20 million in a Series A round led by TIME Ventures. The Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund also participated.
