FirstVet

FirstVet, based in Sweden, is an on-demand veterinary service provider offering software that can be used with smartphones, tablets, and computers. The company helps pet owners with issues such as gastrointestinal problems, accidental poisoning, issues associated with wounds, skin, fur, ears, etc., in addition to wellness care and postoperative rehabilitation, by providing recommendations. Pet owners can download the app and schedule a video consultation priced at USD 26 per session or a subscription for USD 9 per month. FirstVet does not diagnose or prescribe medications that need to be performed in-person. As of February 2022, the company served 300,000+ customers and had over 200 veterinarians serving on the platform; it operates in six countries, including Sweden, Norway, the UK, Finland, and Denmark.

Key customers and partnerships

FirstVet continues to expand its reach virtually via partnerships. It has partnered with Covea (insurer) in May 2020 and PitPat (provider of dog activity monitor and fitness tracker) in October 2020 to enable the partnering companies’ customers to use FirstVet services. In November 2021, the company partnered with Basepaws, a provider of at-home genetic and health testing for felines, to offer free teleconsultation. Followed by, in March 2022, the company launched an ecommerce platform in the UK, featuring vet-approved products. More recently, in July 2022, the firm partnered with Petwise, a senior pet insurance provider, to offer its services to the latter’s customers.
