Battleface is a full-stack specialist travel insurance provider catering to all types of travelers, including vacationers, business travelers, digital nomads, and those taking part in winter sports. Its insurance is available for both international and domestic travelers, while it also offers space travel insurance. The company’s insurance covers trip interruption and cancellation, baggage losses, as well as medical expenses and emergencies. Furthermore, it allows customers to purchase travel insurance while traveling; however, there is a 24-hour waiting period for the policy to be in effect.
Battleface provides cover for more than 175 countries, including those under Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and government essential and non-essential travel advisories. In addition, Battleface offers embedded travel insurance services through APIs for other businesses to sell travel insurance to their customers.
Key customers and partnerships
Battleface’s policies are underwritten by Lloyd’s of London, Spinnaker Insurance Company, Berkley A&H, Northbridge General Insurance Corporation, Crum & Forster, and Pacific International Insurance.
The company launched its travel insurance products in Canada in partnership with Hunter McCorquodale , a specialist provider of life, health, and accident insurance covers. Through the partnership, it aimed to leverage Hunter McCorquodale’s network of brokers in Canada to design products for the B2B2C and B2B markets.
In addition, it also collaborated with AirLegit, an air travel technology company, to introduce FlightGuard48. An API solution offered to travelers via partner online travel agencies. The product provides a suite of services including real-time flight monitoring and alerts, automated check in, and alternative route recommendations.
Funding and financials
In December 2020, the company raised USD 12 million in a Series A funding round led by Drive Capital. The fresh funds were geared toward growth and market expansion of the company, as well as to establish its global headquarters in Columbus. It had also planned to use the funds to expand its B2B2C partnerships with custom-built products and expand their B2C digital offering.
