Upland is a metaverse platform that offers digital land plots based on the real world. It was launched in 2019 on the EOS blockchain and has evolved from a play-to-earn virtual property game to an interactive metaverse with its own in-built economy, offering various activities including world-building, collecting, and competitions. Additionally, players can own and operate shops within the platform.
Upland operates with a native currency, UPX, and a utility token, Spark. Players can earn UPX in game or purchase it with fiat currency. However, it can not be withdrawn or traded on decentralized exchanges. Spark is a currency for property development, allowing players to create 3D objects and structures in the metaverse.
Key customers and partnerships
Upland recorded over 3 million registered players, including 30,000 daily active users as of October 2023.
Funding and financials
In October 2023, Upland raised USD 7 million in an extended Series A funding round, with participation from Animoca Brands and C3 Venture Capital, among others. It planned to use the new funds to progress its roadmap, improve its metaverse platform, and to introduce new features and components that use AI.
