Founded in 2018 by Ruben Harris and brothers Artur and Timur Meyster, Career Karma offers a corporate training marketplace for students and employed professionals. It expanded its product offering to higher education, employees, and contractors in January 2022. As an employee benefit, Career Karma will be entitled to employer-paid tuition for reskilling and up-skilling services. The platform facilitates coaching, access to a community of peers, and personalized placement. As of January 2022, the platform served over 150,000 users and listed more than 9,000 online bootcamps and trade schools.
The company also announced a change to its existing business model in January 2022—shifting to career development from its existing program navigation solution. Previously, Career Karma provided its services free of charge to users and earned a percentage fee-around 10% of a placed-student’s tuition, from partnered higher education institutions.
In July 2022, the company laid off 60 employees, or 30% of its workforce, on the back of corporate customers reducing their marketing budgets due to inflationary pressures. As a result, Career Karma has a cash runway of over three years.
Funding and financials
Career Karma raised USD 40 million in a Series B funding round led by Top Tier Capital Partners in January 2022. The funds are allocated to enter the higher education and employee benefit space, as well as to expand the team.
