The company specializes in the cultivation, processing, and retail distribution of medical and recreational cannabis products. Grassroots operates over 20 dispensaries under brands like Herbology, Greenhouse, and Windy City Cannabis across six states, including Illinois, Maryland, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The company takes pride in its cultivation process, which involves cloning from mother plants, vegetative growth, flowering, pre-harvest flushing, harvesting, drying, and curing to ensure high-quality cannabis flower, concentrates, vapes, and edibles. Grassroots' product offerings encompass a wide range of strains, both indica and sativa, as well as hybrids. Notable strains include Bubba Diagonal, White OG, Ghost Rider, and Candyland, among others.

In July 2019, Curaleaf, a Massachusetts-based cannabis company, announced plans to acquire Grassroots for USD 875 million in stock and cash. The acquisition expanded Curaleaf's presence from 12 states to 19, adding key markets like Illinois and Pennsylvania to its portfolio. Upon completion of the deal, the combined entity would have 131 dispensary licenses, 68 operational locations, 20 cultivation sites, and 26 processing facilities.
