Dorian is a no-code platform that allows female creators to convert their fiction stories into choose-your-own-adventure games to improve the monetization of their literary work. The platform also allows creators to host interactive livestreaming sessions to play Dorian games as well as interact with and receive donations from their audiences. The company claims some popular Dorian streamers earn up to USD 15,000 per year through direct contributions by fans.
Dorian has no readership requirements in order to monetize creator work and any user over the age of 13 can monetize on Dorian through Tipalti, the payout provider used by Twitch and Roblox. As of March 2022, Dorian had ~250 creators who collectively converted over 3,500 stories into interactive games.
Dorian acquired Nix Hydra Games ( July 2022 ), a mobile gaming studio, along with their two popular Otome-style titles Fictif and The Arcana: A Mystic Romance. The acquisition was expected to enable Dorian creators to create fan fiction and spin-off stories using the art and lore from the original IPs of Fictif and Arcana. Dorian’s livestreaming feature was also expected to enable Arcana’s cosplay community (which had over 300 million views on TikTok as the time of the acquisition) to roleplay characters from these games while interacting with fans live.
In March 2022 , Dorian raised USD 14 million in Series A funding led by Raine Group to grow the company’s employee base and license more intellectual property in order to host more in-app events.
