Phasecraft is a quantum software company founded in 2018 following a spin-out from the University College London (UCL) and the University of Bristol. It develops software applications for materials (batteries), chemistry (catalysts), and optimization (industrial processes, logistics, and satisfaction problems). The company has offices in Bristol and London.
The company has announced two breakthroughs so far; 1) the development of quantum algorithms that significantly reduce the computing power required to run a calculation, which could help develop exotic new materials (December 2020), and 2) a technique to model subatomic fermion particles that will significantly reduce the hardware resources required for a physical simulation—thus resulting in more efficient and accurate simulations (July 2021).
Key customers and partnerships
In January 2024, Phasecraft secured a contract from the UK Government and collaborated with the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the Supergen Energy Networks Hub. This project was one of six projects that were selected for a Phase II rolllout after the successful completion of a feasibility study in Phase I. Phasecraft has partnered with several quantum hardware companies including IBM (March 2021), Google, and Rigetti Computing .
Funding and financials
In February 2024, Phasecraft secured a GBP 1.2 million (USD 1.5 million) contract from the UK Government as part of the UK’s Quantum Catalyst Fund to explore quantum computing in enhancing the efficiency of energy grids.
