Headquartered in Michigan, Airspace Experience Technologies (ASX) is a venture originated from Detroit Aircraft Corporation (DAC), a reputable manufacturer of over 55 eVTOL aircraft for various sectors, including defense and emergency response. Inspired by the experience at DAC, ASX’s founder, Jon Rimanelli, aimed to develop a large-scale eVTOL aircraft with a flexible payload system. The objective was to create an adaptable aircraft that prioritizes low emissions and can cater to the diverse needs of commercial and private sectors, logistics, defense, and emergency response services. The latest version of this vision is SIGMA-6, introduced in 2022 as the sixth iteration. The company operates out of Detroit’s Coleman A. Young International Airport and was in a public-private partnership with the City of Detroit as of May 2023.
The Sigma-6 is a versatile two-phase eVTOL aircraft designed to accommodate a range of payloads according to specific task requirements. This adaptability allows ASX to manufacture standardized flight modules on a large scale, which are characterized by their straightforward design, easy assembly, cost-effectiveness, and suitability for fleet operators. The Sigma 6 is equipped with a fully electric powertrain, ensuring emission-free operations. Additionally, hybrid propulsion alternatives will be offered, utilizing eco-friendly fuels or hydrogen fuel cells. The aircraft can travel ~761 miles in hybrid mode at a cruise speed of 125 mph. It also has an interchangeable payload that allows users to easily change pods to serve different missions with the same light module.
Funding and financials
In May 2021, ASX secured USD 2.4 million from a debt financing round.
