Innocent Meat is a German cell-cultured technology startup that has developed a novel, scalable cultured meat production system. Known as “Farm In A Box,” this automated plug-and-produce system comes with the required stem cells, scaffolds, and cell media needed for cultivated meat production and can be operated without any specific knowledge in the field of cultured meats. According to the company, this system only requires 6 sq m of space to produce roughly one metric ton of cultured minced meat per week.
Innocent Meat also provides FABA.BIO, a molecular farming platform, which uses plants as bioreactors for producing recombinant protein expression.
Funding and financials
In March 2024, Innocent Meat raised EUR 3 million (~USD 3.3 million) in funding backed by Venture Capital Fonds MV and an undisclosed private investor. The capital infusion was earmarked for developing biocomponents, scaling the pilot plant, and initiating certification processes.
