Israeli startup Autobrains (formerly known as Cartica AI) develops patented artificial intelligence (AI)-based video perception technology for self-driving vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Autobrains offers a portfolio of hardware-agnostic perception software stacks, including 1) AB Entry, for entry-level ADAS Smart Cameras, targeting Level 1 to 2 automated driving levels; 2) AB Volume & AB Premium, for premium front-facing ADAS smart-camera or entry-level ADAS Domain Control Unit (ADCU), for automated driving levels 2 and higher; and 3) AB Luxury, a scalable, modular software stack for higher level ADAS and AD Domain Controllers. The company planned to commercially roll-out its products by 2023. In September 2024, Autobrains launched Air2Road, a new localization technology for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving solutions.

The company aims to build technology with Level 4 and 5 autonomy (i.e., for fully autonomous vehicles limited to specific locations and/or conditions and for autonomous vehicles to navigate in all weather conditions without human interventions, respectively) by 2024. As of March 2022, Autobrains had more than 250 technology-related patents filed.

Key customers and partnerships

Autobrains has product partnerships with companies such as CalAmp, a provider of internet of things (IoT) software applications, to integrate the latter’s plug-and-play on-board diagnostic (OBD) devices and telematics systems with Autobrains platform (June 2017); automotive parts manufacturer Continental, to develop ADAS and autonomous vehicle tech (June 2021); and Ambarella, an AI vision silicon company, to develop ADAS (December 2021). In January 2023, it partnered with Ambarella and Seeing Machines, a developer of vision-based monitoring technology, to offer combined front ADAS and driver monitoring solutions in a single box, using a single system-on-chip (SoC).

Funding and Financials

Autobrains closed its Series C funding round in two tranches; one in November 2021, raising USD 101 million and the other in March 2022, raising USD 19 million—both led by Temasek. The company intended to utilize the funds to fast-track product commercialization.
