Itero Technologies is a British plastic recycling technology provider that develops a proprietary pyrolysis process to upcycle plastic waste. Itero produces petrochemical resources, such as circular chemical feedstocks, gas, and waxes from recycled plastic.
Itero initially scans plastic feedstock to assure size and polymer type compliance with the company’s pyrolysis technology. Then, the feedstock is converted to hydrocarbons via thermal cracking and tunable condensers separate hydrocarbon product fractions by dew points. Finally, uncondensed hydrocarbon gas is reverted into the system to power the conversion process.
The company undertakes feasibility testing for different feedstocks at its West London pilot plant, which operates as its R&D facility in the UK. Itero Technologies also expects to develop a demonstration plant in the Netherlands, with a processing capacity of 27,000 tons of mixed plastic waste per year. The plan is expected to go live in the second half of 2025.
Key customers and partnerships
In March 2023, Itero signed an engineering contract with Fluor Corporation, a construction company, to construct a demonstration recycling plant in the Netherlands. In September 2023, Itero Technologies partnered with Brightlands Chemelot Campus to design Itero’s chemical recycling demonstration plant by signing a commercial realization agreement.
Funding and Financials
In February 2024, Itero Technologies received an EU grant of EUR 5 million (~USD 5.4 million) from the Just Transition Fund (JTF) to build Itero's first demonstration plant for its patented pyrolysis technology at the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in the Netherlands.
