ZenRobotics

Based in Finland, ZenRobotics, a Terex brand, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the quality of waste sorting. The company’s robots are AI-equipped, which allows them to sort waste similar to humans, making the recycling process more efficient. The company claims to be the first to apply AI-based sorting robots to a complex waste-sorting environment.

As of March 2024, the company's products are sold in more than 15 countries worldwide.

As of March 2024, the robots offered in the company’s solution are of two types: the heavy picker and the fast picker. The former is used for sorting bulky waste and can carry up to a maximum of 40 kg. The latter is ideally used at material recovery facilities (MRF) that deal with lightweight materials, such as plastic, and can pick 80 objects per minute. These ZenRobots work along with the company’s AI software which is called ZenBrain and provides the complete autonomous waste sorting solution for businesses, trained in 500 waste categories. In February 2024, the company introduced ZenRobotics 4.0, its fourth generation of waste sorting robots that have new features and upgraded AI to optimize and improve the efficiency of waste sorting operations.

In August 2022, ZenRobotics was acquired by Terex Materials Processing (MP) for an undisclosed sum. Post-acquisition, ZenRobotics retains its name and operates as a Terex brand. 

Key customers and partnerships

In October 2020, the company announced that it has partnered with Eberhard Group (a Swiss family-owned company and long-term customer of ZenRobotics) to support Eberhard’s in building its Ai-Driven recycling plant. 

Some of the waste management companies and MRFs using ZenRobotics include Zanker Recycling (USA), Recon Services (USA), Baestan (Netherlands), Remeo (Finland), Carl F (Sweden), Daitou (Japan), and V8 (Singapore).
