Syngenta is a world-leading agribusiness in crop protection, seeds, professional pest management solutions, flowers, and vegetables. Founded in 2000, it is headquartered in Switzerland. In 2017, it was acquired by ChemChina for USD 43 billion (the largest foreign acquisition to date) and brought under Sinochem Holdings Corp in 2021. Syngenta generated USD 20 billion in revenue in 2022.
The company offers products under 16 categories clustered under two key divisions: Crop Protection and Seeds. Crop Protection segment revenue represents 80% of total revenue and includes chemicals such as herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and seed treatments to control weeds, insects, and diseases in crops as well as biological products. The Seeds segment (20% of total revenue) operates in the high-value commercial sectors of field crops (including corn, oilseeds, and cereals) and vegetables. It comprises the flowers and vegetable businesses as well.
Syngenta operates in several regions, the largest market being Latin America (accounting for ~39% of total revenue in 2022), followed by North America (~23%), Europe, Africa, and the Middle East (~23%), and the Asia Pacific region (~14%). It plans a USD 10 billion PO by the end of 2024 to raise capital for expansion and debt repayment.
