Stout Industrial Technology is an AI company that helps growers automate labor-intensive field work such as weeding. Smart Cultivator, the company's product, is an AI-powered in-row weeder for various organic and conventional crops such as lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and kale that uses mechanical actuation to remove weeds without the use of chemicals. According to the company, each machine can cultivate 1–2 acres per hour with one tractor operator.
The Smart Cultivator combines a patented, agriculturally proven mechanical platform with Stout True Vision technology to eliminate weeds and cultivate the ground in a single pass. It reduces reliance on labor and chemical inputs while improving farming practices. Stout True Vision cameras capture high-resolution color images that are then processed by a convolutional neural network.
In August 2023, The company has appointed Lance Portman as its CEO. The company has also appointed Ryan Mazzuca as its new business development director.
