Chargebee, based in the US and India, provides an infrastructure platform for enterprises to develop FinTechs to manage their billing, subscription, invoicing, and payments. Users can customize the pricing structures, products, and subscription lifecycle using over 480 recurring billing scenarios offered by the platform. Chargebee supported 23 payment gateways as of October 2020, including Stripe, Braintree, and PayPal. It was also available in over 120 currencies and in multiple languages.
Chargebee also has offices in Amsterdam, Salt Lake City, and Sydney, and has a user base of more than 2,500 customers in over 160 countries as of October 2020. Its large enterprise customers include Fujitsu, Envoy, and Linux Academy. Notably, the company does not charge its customers until they reach USD 50,000 in revenue and claims that it processes over USD 3 billion in revenue annually.
Chargebee’s ARR reportedly grew by more than 100% over the 12 months leading to January 2022, and during the period it acquired RevLock (October 2021; to enable its users to automate revenue recognition) and Brightback (January 2022; to maximize revenue growth capabilities for its users). It subsequently acquired Numberz in February 2022, to launch ‘Chargebee Receivables’ (to let users automate the entire receivables process from purchase to payments).
In February 2022, the company raised USD 250 million in funding, at a USD 3.5 billion valuation (more than 2.5x its valuation in April 2021), to be invested in product innovation, global expansion, and to set up strategic corporate growth initiatives.
