Esports February Scorecard: esports + blockchain – a perfect match?

Stay sharp with our email newsletter.

All things blockchain (crypto, NFTs, DAOs, and DeFi) are gaining traction in the post-pandemic world. In an effort to reach wider audiences and move further into the mainstream, blockchain companies have signed multi-million dollar sponsorship deals with traditional sports franchises (e.g., Crypto.com’s 20-year USD 700 million arena naming rights deal with the Los Angeles Lakers). In recent times, this was replicated in the esports industry, as it witnessed the emergence of large-scale tie-ups. Since the inception of our monthly scorecard in March 2021, there have been 25 deals between esports and blockchain-related companies and notable were:
  • FTX acquired Team SoloMid (TSM) naming rights in a historic esports sponsorship deal
  • Immortals Gaming Club signed a three-year cryptocurrency deal with Bitstamp
  • Guild Esports inked a three-year GBP 4.5 million deal with cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp
  • FaZe Clan entered a multi-year partnership with Moonpay for esports and crypto NFTs
  • Team Liquid entered into a four-year partnership with the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase
In addition, we tracked 27 new esports brand deals in the month of February; see more details inside!
