Nikola Motor Company (Nikola), a developer of heavy-duty battery-electric vehicles (BEV) and fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) trucks, reported its Q3 2021 results today. The company expects to deliver up to 25 Nikola Tre BEV trucks to customers by the end of the year and has begun testing the Nikola Tre FCEV model as scheduled.
The company inaugurated its joint venture manufacturing facility (with IVECO) in Ulm, Germany in September. So far, eight Nikola Tre BEV gamma trucks have been assembled at the facility. The company started pre-series Tre BEV truck production at its facilities in Coolidge, Arizona (30 trucks) and Ulm (10 trucks) in October with plans to complete it in Q4 2021 and start commercial hauling in 2022.
The company has built seven Nikola Tre FCEV alpha units so far—two in Ulm and five in Coolidge—and began track testing in Ulm and Phoenix, Arizona, with plans to start road testing by the end of the year.
Nikola is also working towards expanding the production capacity at its Coolidge facility. Phase I, to be concluded in January 2022, will facilitate the production of 2,400 trucks per year; Phase II, expected to be completed in early 2023, will increase capacity further to produce 20,000 units per year.

Other highlights include forming strategic partnerships with renewable natural gas and fueling infrastructure providers TC Energy and OPAL Fuels to strengthen its hydrogen refueling ecosystem; and continued expansion of its sales network by adding new dealers including Alta Equipment Group and Quinn Company.
