100 Thieves, an esports team organization, has purchased the Call of Duty League (CDL) Los Angeles franchise Optic Gaming L.A. from esports organization Immortals Gaming Club (IGC). The acquisition price was not disclosed but is believed to be at a slight premium compared to the original franchise fee of USD 25 million. 100 Thieves revealed that it will compete in the CDL under the name Los Angeles Thieves.
The purchase of the CDL marks the return of 100 Thieves into Call of Duty esports. 100 Thieves, headquartered in Los Angeles, stated that competing in the CDL through its local franchise slot and the commercial success of the inaugural CDL season prompted the decision. IGC has separately mentioned that the sale was precipitated by its decision to focus on stronger brands in its portfolio.
Founded in 2017, 100 Thieves is one of the most popular esports organizations globally and fields teams in Fortnite, Valorant, and League of Legends. It also operates a successful lifestyle apparel and merchandise brand.
