Riot Games announced a seven-year deal with cryptocurrency exchange FTX in what is considered to be its biggest esports league sponsorship to date. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
As a result of the agreement, FTX will become the official cryptocurrency exchange partner for The League of Legends Championship Series (LCS), granting it branding and presenting rights across LCS platforms. FTX will present the new ‘LCS Most Improved Player Award’ and FTX branding is expected to be added to the in-game currency across all LCS matches.
The announcement follows FTX’s record USD 210 million naming rights deal with esports team organization TeamSoloMid (TSM) in June. Interestingly, LCS denied TSM from using FTX branding at the time owing to the controversial nature of esports partnerships with crypto and gambling brands.
