Envy Gaming and OpTic Gaming to merge their Call of Duty franchises

M&A

  • Envy Gaming (Envy) and OpTic Gaming (OpTic), two well-known North American esports organizations in Call of Duty esports, announced a merger to operate under a single brand in the Call of Duty League (CDL).

  • Established in 2006, OpTic Gaming is primarily known for its franchised Call of Duty team and is currently owned by Hector Rodriguez. OpTic has earned a total of USD 7.9 million in tournament prize money, out of which 42% was accumulated by competing in various Call of Duty titles.

  • As part of the deal, Envy’s Call of Duty franchise Dallas Empire will be rebranded as OpTic Texas for the 2022 CDL season, where both OpTic and Envy will compete as a single team. OpTic’s Chicago franchise slot in the CDL will be sold.

  • The current President of OpTic Gaming, Hector Rodriguez, will become a shareholder in OpTic Texas and will continue to operate OpTic Gaming. Envy will continue to operate its franchise in the Overwatch League, as well as its teams in Valorant, Halo, and Rocket League.
