Airwallex launches in North America

Geographic expansion

  • Airwallex, a cross-border payment and fund transfer infrastructure provider, is expanding its services to the US, marking its entry to North America.

  • The company has obtained money transmitter licenses in several major states including California, Texas, and Florida, which are reportedly more difficult to obtain licenses from. Airwallex is also permitted to provide its money services in almost all of the states.

  • The launch is supported by its current presence in the US (team in San Francisco since 2019) and partnerships with local banks including Evolve Bank & Trust, a financial services and Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) technology provider.

  • Airwallex plans to expand its US team in the near future and expects the office to serve as one of its global engineering research and development (R&D) hubs.
