Climeworks, a Swiss direct air capture (DAC) startup, has announced a strategic partnership with Swiss Re. Two companies have inked a long-term carbon removal purchase agreement worth USD 10 million for a duration of 10 years.
Climeworks and Swiss Re will also collaborate to scale up carbon removal solutions by exploring future investment and project opportunities.
The partnership expects to enable Swiss Re to target net-zero emissions in its operations by 2030.

Analyst QuickTake: Following the agreement, Swiss Re joins Climeworks’ other high-profile customers such as Microsoft, Stripe, Shopify, and Audi. Climeworks has been selling DAC carbon removals since 2019 and has attracted more than 8,000 individual and business customers across 56 countries to date, although most of them are likely to be individual customers. Storegga and Carbon Engineering are two other first movers to commercialize DAC having onboarded their first customers earlier this year.
