Paleo, a Belgium-based startup using precision fermentation technology to produce alternative meat and fish products, has raised EUR 2 million (USD 2.2 million) in seed funding; information on investors is not disclosed.
The funding is expected to be used on R&D, to design a new R&D center, pilot plant, and an experience center. The startup plans to set up the three facilities with the upcoming Series A funding round.
Paleo, claimed to be the pioneer in precision fermentation for alternative meat and fish in Europe, is developing six proteins in the meat and fish categories. The startup expects to market the proteins as ingredients that can enhance the sensory profile and nutritional values of plant-based meat products.
