Melodea introduces bio-based coating solutions for packaging industry

Product updates

  • Melodea, an Israeli company producing bio-based coatings for industrial application, has entered the packaging industry with plant-based coating solutions “MelOx” and “Melodea VBcoat” to replace plastics and aluminum coatings used to protect packages.

  • The MelOx coating protects packages from oxygen, oil, and grease, while the Melodea VBcoat is a water vapor barrier coating. The latter can be applied on top of the oxygen barrier to give higher protection for the packaging.

  • The packaging coating solutions use Melodea’s proprietary technology to extract cellulose nanocrystals from wood pulp obtained from the industrial forests. The coating is recyclable, compostable, and non-toxic. It can be applied on surfaces such as paper, paperboard, bio-plastic, and plastic. Melodea targets packaging manufacturers, goods manufacturers, and food companies for this solution.
