AMP Robotics launches new secondary sortation facilities in Atlanta and Cleveland

Geographic expansion

 • AMP Robotics, a Colorado-based startup offering waste sorting robots, is launching two AI-powered advanced secondary sortation facilities in Atlanta and Cleveland. The facilities will process difficult-to-recycle mixed plastics, paper, and metals collected from scraps supplied by materials recovery facilities (MRFs) and other material providers.

 • The secondary sortation facility will allow AMP to recover mixed paper, metals, and plastic (types 1–7) with high precision and purity. The recovered materials are expected to be sold to end-market buyers.

 • The company is launching the two additional facilities to use its AI technology for material identification and advanced automation upon the success of its pilot facility in Denver in 2021. The company further plans to introduce additional facilities in 2H 2022.

 • AMP Robotics also reports that it is working on securing partnerships with waste management companies (to get a supply of scraps and secondary materials) and with plastics reclaimers, chemical recyclers, and other plastics manufacturers (to resell the recovered plastics).

Analyst QuickTake: AMP Robotics, while mainly focusing on selling its AI-based sorting robots, has also been working on building sorting and recycling facilities that will use its AI-based technology for material recovery. In October 2021, the company opened its first AI-powered recycling demonstration site at SIGMA SA’s facility in Lublin, Poland. It was built to recycle and manage waste by deploying AMP’s AI-guided robotic system to identify categories of paper, plastics, and metals. Besides such initiatives, the company has deployed 230 of its robotic systems in over 80 third-party facilities across three continents.
