Pulpex and Kraft-Heinz to develop paper-based ketchup bottles

Partnerships

  • Pulpex, a producer of recyclable paper-based bottles for liquid packaging, and condiment and ketchup manufacturer Kraft-Heinz have partnered to develop a renewable paper-based ketchup bottle made from sustainably sourced wood pulp.

  • Both companies are currently working on a prototype bottle and will test its performance and how it can be used for Heinz’s tomato ketchup bottles and other product packaging in the future. The performance and use case tests will be carried out before consumer testing and introduction to the market.

  • Pulpex states that its bottles are expected to be fully recyclable and will have a lower carbon footprint compared to glass and plastic bottles on a bottle-by-bottle basis.

  • For Heinz, this partnership aligns with its goal to make all of its packaging globally recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2025 and to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
