Mewery Meat, a Czech cell-cultured pork startup, has received an investment of an undisclosed amount from Big Idea Ventures, a US-based accelerator. Mewery Meat is reportedly the first Czech company to be backed by the latter.
Mewery Meat develops cell-cultured pork products using a proprietary microalgae-based growth media and is also the first to do so in Europe. This way, the company reports that it can reduce cultivation costs by 70% compared to that of using fetal-bovine serum. It plans to enter the market by 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
