Oishii Farm, a New Jersey-based vertical farming company that produces Japanese Omakase strawberries, has announced that it has opened a new 74,000 sq ft farm in Jersey City, New Jersey.
The farm is the largest and reportedly the most technologically advanced one in Oishii’s network to date. The farm will exclusively produce Japanese Omakase strawberries using 60% less energy and 40% less water compared to the company’s first-generation technology.
The price of the company’s pack of 11 medium berries or eight large berries has also been reduced from USD 50 to USD 20. It also announced a USD 11 pack and a USD 6 pack for six and three medium berries respectively. The special edition “First Flower Berry” remains at USD 50 for a pack of six berries. The company also stated that it is currently developing new strawberry varieties and other types of flowering produce and vine fruits such as tomatoes, melons, and peppers.
Alongside the new farm, given the growing demand for its strawberries, the company is expanding its retail footprint. Oishii’s strawberries will now be available at the upcoming Whole Foods Market store set to open in the NoMad neighborhood in New York.
