Walmart and its partnering drone solution provider DroneUp have announced plans to expand drone-based delivery services to 30+ selected Walmart stores across Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Texas, Utah, and Virginia this year, aiming to reach up to four million households.
Eligible Walmart customers can place orders for items totaling up to 10 lbs, which will then be delivered to residences within 30 minutes. The companies will charge a USD 3.99 fee per delivery.
Analyst QuickTake: Today’s partnership further strengthens Walmart’s ties with DroneUp. The duo first partnered in September 2020 to deliver Covid-19 test kits in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Cheektowaga, New York, and since then have been collaborating on various drone-based delivery projects. Walmart also invested an undisclosed amount in the company last year. However, DroneUp is not the only company that Walmart is working with to provide drone-based delivery services to its customers, partnering with drone startups Zipline and Flytrex for various drone-based delivery programs in the US.
