NatureWorks and CJ BIO partner to develop novel biopolymer solutions

Partnerships

  • NatureWorks, the sustainable biopolymer manufacturing subsidiary of Cargill, has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with CJ BIO, a subsidiary of food company CJ CheilJedang and a leading manufacturer of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA). The partnership is aimed at developing high-performance biopolymers for compostable food packaging, food serviceware, and personal care.

  • Via the partnership, NatureWorks and CJ BIO will combine their bio-based polyester brand technologies “Ingeo” and “PHACT,” respectively, to produce the novel biopolymer solution. The companies are also working toward signing a master collaboration agreement (MCA) in the future.

  • NatureWorks and CJ BIO will collect feedback from their existing and potential customers on their new biopolymer material and will add or improve the functional properties of the material.
