French quantum hardware startup Pasqal has been selected to provide two of its 100-qubit quantum computers to the High Performance Computer-Quantum Simulator (HPCQS).
HPCQS, formed in December 2021, is a four-year European project worth EUR 12 million that focuses on merging classical high-performance computing with quantum-enhanced simulations. It has support from the European HPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) and six European countries.
HPCQS will leverage Pasqal’s Fresnel neutral atom quantum systems to work together with classical supercomputers. It will assist European companies as well as other research organizations to explore hybrid quantum-classical technology to solve practical quantum applications. The initiative also believes it will uplift the European quantum ecosystem and enhance the region’s edge over other nations.
