Klarna partners with Marqeta to launch physical Visa card

Partnerships

Klarna, the largest global BNPL solution provider, has partnered with card issuing platform Marqeta to launch its physical Visa card in the US. The card can be used to spread online or in-store purchase payments over four installments.

Marqeta uses an open application programming interface (API) to provide payment infrastructure services for enterprises to offer physical and digital payment cards. The company’s 400 employees spread across 12 countries attests to its global presence.

Analyst QuickTake : Klarna launched a physical card in the UK in late January, with a reported waitlist of 400,000 users. It opened the waitlist for its physical Visa card in the US in early February. The company, feeling the brunt of rising interest rates, announced plans to lay off 10% of its workforce (~700 employees). The job cuts were not surprising, following reports that Klarna could see a steep decline in its valuation, as it attempts to raise USD 1 billion.
