Klarna looking to raise USD 1 billion; funding reportedly discussed at a significant discount to its previous valuation

Funding

 • Klarna, the largest global BNPL solution provider, is reportedly in the market for USD 1 billion in fresh capital but it could come at a significant discount to its previous valuation. Reports revealed that the valuation could come in at the low USD 30 billion range. Goldman Sachs is the advisor to the deal.

Analyst QuickTake : The steep cut in valuation could be attributed to the rising interest rate environment, which reduces margins of BNPL players, and the pressure on consumer disposable income as a result of inflation. Klarna’s most recent funding round came in June 2021 , when it raised a whopping USD 639 million at a USD 45.6 billion valuation. It was also reportedly in the early stages of finalizing a fresh funding round that would value the startup at USD 50 billion–60 billion, according to Bloomberg, in February.
