Drone Delivery Canada (DDC), an Ontario-based drone and logistics systems developer, announced that it has launched a commercial drone-based delivery service at the Edmonton International Airport (EIA) in Alberta, Canada for a period of 12 months.
The company has received an upfront fee for the route and will also charge a monthly fee for the service.
The project will utilize DDC’s “Sparrow” drones and “DroneSpot” takeoff and landing stations for deliveries as well as DDC’s proprietary “FLYTE” software system to monitor the flights. The drones will deliver a variety of cargo from the airport to Ziing Final Mile and Apple Express’s off-airport locations in the industrial park in Leduc County, Alberta.

Analyst QuickTake: DDC has been collaborating with the EIA since late 2019 to create flight routes from the airport. We believe the commercial launch of the service today is a critical milestone for the company to further its goal to establish its presence in the last-mile delivery automation space using drone technology.
