Brevel, an Israel-based startup engaged in the development of sustainable microalgae-based plant-based meat ingredients, has secured USD 8.4 million in a seed funding round with participation from FoodHack, Good Startup VC, Tet Ventures, and Nevateam Ventures. Further, the round also included grants from the EU’s Horizon 2020 program and Israel Innovation Authority.
The company plans to use the funding for the construction and operation of its first commercial facility, which is set to be operational as early as Q4 2022. This will allow Brevel to increase its production capacity in order to demonstrate the feasibility of its microalgae development at mass-production levels.
Brevel, founded in 2016, is a company developing cultivation technology for sustainable, cost-efficient, and high-quality production of microalgae for various applications by utilizing high-tech, sterile, and fully automated systems with high-intensity illumination.
