Citymapper, a leading transport planning app, introduced a global cycle routing feature to strengthen its enterprise offerings.
The new solution, which is compatible with all types of cycles (personal bikes. Docked bikes, and e-bike hires), allows enterprise users to add cycle directions and voice-enabled turn-by-turn navigation to their transport planning apps. Key features of the solution include the ability to choose preferred cycling routes, identify routes to avoid steep hills, cross-traffic turns and pedestrian zone priority, automatic rerouting, and smart compass and bearing. The solution leverages OpenStreetMap (OSM), which allows it to be applied globally in both cities and rural areas.
Enterprise users would gain access to Citymapper’s global cycler software developer kit (SDK) in order to integrate the new functions into its products. The SDK is fully customizable in terms of color, font, icon, and other details.

Analyst QuickTake: The new feature further strengthens the portfolio of enterprise-grade features, which comes in the wake of the appointment of a new COO in April 2022, where the firm signaled its intent to scale its enterprise solutions. Along with the launch of its global pedestrian routing feature last month, Citymapper has a distinct advantage over other transport planning apps, as it hopes to capitalize on the growing demand for such services, which complement the policies of city planners and local authorities for creating more pedestrian- and cycle-friendly routes as part of its efforts toward achieving sustainability goals.
