Leafood raised EUR 6.45 million in seed funding

Funding

Leafood, a Lithuanian hydroponic vertical farming startup, has raised EUR 6.45 million (~USD 6.75 million) in seed funding led by Niels Peter Pretzmann, YesHealth Group (operator of Europe’s largest farms including Nordic Harvest ), and a private investor.

 • The funds will be used to support the construction of a network of vertical farms across Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland. Leafood will partner with Taiwan-based YesHealth Group to build and operate all of its planned vertical farms, with the first farm to be built in Vilnius, Lithuania by Q1 2023. The company plans to raise an additional USD 2 million within the year.

 • The farms will be powered using renewable energy including wind and solar power and claims to reduce water usage by 90%. Leafood plans to produce 1,000 kg of leafy greens per day and up to 400 tons of produce per year. The company’s products are expected to hit the market by Q2 2023 and will be available within a 20 km radius of the city center. Leafood plans to target the retail and HORECA (hotel/restaurant/catering) sector in the food industry.
