Wejo, a mobility data provider, launched “Wejo historic traffic patterns,” a new data service that enables users to request specific data and insights from historic traffic patterns over the past several years from any specific location in the US.
The data, which can be accessed directly via an API from the Wejo platform, is gathered from millions of connected vehicles that have journeyed on up to 95% of roads and highways in the US for the past several years. As a result, the firm claims that the data is highly granular and even covers locations in the US where no monitors or sensors were previously installed.
Wejo has identified several industries including government agencies, civil engineering firms, mapping/navigation providers, logistics companies, and commercial real estate developers that can benefit from the data.

Analyst QuickTake: The launch of the new solution underlies the recognition by smart mobility information providers of the value of the mobility data that they possess, which has applications that go beyond mobility requirements. Reflective of this value is the significant funds raised by Metropolis, a park-and-go app, where it also sees the application of its contactless parking data for other use cases such as real estate operators and local merchants.
