Skyports, a UK-based drone logistics company, has announced plans to trial drone-based delivery of school lunches in Oban, Scotland in partnership with Argyll and Bute Council, Scotland. This marks the first such project in the UK.
The drones will be deployed from Oban Airport to deliver meals prepared in Park Primary School to Lochnell Primary, covering a distance of about a mile.
The trial comes as a part of the council’s intention to create an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) innovations logistics hub at Oban Airport by 2025.
